Bright Star Community Outreach

Bright Star Community Outreach is a nonprofit that offers a variety of services including a free trauma counseling hotline from 9 a.m. – 6 pm. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Call the free hotline at 833-TURN-123.


NAMI is the largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for Americans affected by mental illness. The NAMI HelpLine can be reached Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. CST. Call the HelpLine at 800-950-NAMI (6264) or text “NAMI” to 741741.

The Chicago Police Department

The Chicago Police Department has a Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) with officers trained on how to interact, intervene and de-escalate situations with persons in crisis and/or experiencing a mental illness episode. Follow these steps to request a CIT-trained Chicago Police officer: Step 1: Call 9-1-1 Step 2: State there is a mental health issue Step 3: Ask for a CIT-trained officer
